Stripping gender from style

Every day, people ask themselves the never-ending question of what to wear in front of their mirror. But what motives really lie behind our choice of clothing? How does it influence us and does clothing really have a specific gender? This thesis is dedicated to exactly these questions and tries to bring insights into the complex relationship between clothing and gender. For this purpose, various sources are analyzed that deal with the origins, classification, and marketing of gendered clothing. Clothing is like a language, full of meaning and nuance in all shapes and sizes, colors and textures. The thesis explores the question of when the classification of clothing by gender began and examines the differences in color, style, and design between female and male clothing. In addition, the work sheds light on the de-gendering movement in the fashion world and explores the potential for a gender-neutral future. Can we ever achieve the freedom to wear what we want without being criticized by others?
