ABSTRACT & RESEARCH

Today, surveillance is an omnipresent subject. It becomes more and more extreme, especially with the help of facial recognition algorithms. People try to bypass this invasion of their privacy using various methods. This work is about the question if facial recognition through surveillance can be avoided with the help of make-up and hair styling. In addition, the development of anti-surveillance make-up, styling and facial recognition is discussed, as well as technical and political backgrounds. In a qualitative self-experiment the anti-surveillance styling was tested through a face recognition app. Thereby it was clarified that the software is difficult to circumvent and that the styling must be very sophisticated. The experiment showed that two concepts worked, one wasn’t completely reliable und one didn’t work at all.
