This research paper deals with the problem of plastic waste and its impact on theenvironment, with attention to the pollution that garbage creates in the oceans. Among otherthings, it examined possible alternatives to plastic products, when a product loses its valueand when or how waste is used as a resource. In fact, the investigation showed that garbageis already treated as a resource at some points. Old fishing nets, for example, aremanufactured into new bracelets, shredded plastic into useful bowls, and worthless coffeegrounds serve as basic material for new, stylish coffee cups.
This seminar paper was created considering the motto, "Love & Design". "Rubbish" isrepresentative for the garbage and plastic problem, "charity" as in “paying it forward”,represents a clean environment for future generations and "design" stands for upcycling andrecycling plastic waste.
In addition, an experiment was carried out, which investigated whether the naturalenvironment nearby of Graz has been affected by a garbage problem. To the surprise of theauthors, only a very small amount of garbage was found, which was limited to a few plasticpieces and bottle caps. Why is this the case? The authors try to answer this question in adetailed seminar paper.
